The four NABIS forensic hubs ensure that:
- All firearms, bullets and cartridge cases are examined by a single group of scientists in one organisation;
- All bullets and cartridge cases recovered from crime scenes, but not linked to a weapon, are held by a single organisation. Access by forces/agencies to the associated intelligence is unrestricted;
- Intelligence is gathered and collated without the danger of fragmentation amongst FSPs;
- All NABIS services are provided under an ACPO subscription arrangement;
The Central Hub provides forensic services for the Midlands and the South of England police forces. A dedicated team of Forensic officers and technicians are on site to provide quick time information and results relating to any firearm or ballistic submissions that meet the submission criteria.
For more information regarding the submission criteria, please refer to the NABIS POLKA site.
