Birmingham Gang Member Jailed
11th September 2018
A member of the Birmingham '23 Drillas' urban street gang has been jailed for more than 18 years following a West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) police investigation.
Alieu Salla was arrested in Alum Rock earlier this year, when he attempted to hide a revolver loaded with ammunition by throwing it under a car. His mobile phone was seized by police at the time of the arrest, together with the firearm.
The hundreds of messages the phone contained built up a picture for investigating officers of his extensive involvement in drug dealing.
Salla, aged 20, of Bankdale Road, Alum Rock was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (7 September) after a week long trial and sentenced to 18 years and four months for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and the supply of class A drugs.
Detective Inspector David Sproson, from the Regional Organised Crime Unit, said: "By rashly carrying a loaded firearm, Salla was a massive risk to public safety. Thankfully, his ignorance and arrogance has put him behind bars for a considerable amount of time."
