Firearm and Ammunition Recovered In Brixton

Police in Lambeth have recovered a firearm and ammunition after an intelligence-led raid at an address in Brixton.

At approximately 11:00hrs on Monday, 25 January, officers from Lambeth's Proactive Gangs Unit forced entry to an address in Brixton Road, SW9.

Inside the venue they discovered a locked safe. Officers gained entry to the safe and inside they discovered a pistol and ammunition.

A 53-year-old man was detained inside the address and arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm. He remains in custody at a south London police station.

The firearm will be sent off for forensic examination.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Redmond of Lambeth's Proactive Gangs Unit said:

"We are committed to tackling gun crime and making the streets of Lambeth safer. If you have any information which can help take these lethal weapons off the streets, please contact police and we will deal with the information discretely and sensitively."
