Gang Member Locked Up After Gun Recovered
3rd June 2017
A prominent Northfield gang member has been locked up after he was caught with a gun and drugs following a police raid.
Officers swooped on the home of Marcel Mullings-Boyd as part of a pre-planned operation by the Organised Crime and Gang Team in Birmingham.
A handgun and cannabis plants were recovered from the address in Out Wood Drive, Northfield, on 1 February this year and the 19 year-old was arrested.
He pleaded guilty to possession of a handgun and production of cannabis and was sentenced to five years at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday 2 June.
It forms part of an on-going police crackdown on organised crime groups with further swoops expected in the future.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Dale, from West Midlands Police, said: "We will not tolerate illegal guns or drugs in our communities and this case should serve as a warning to others.
"The raid and arrest of Mullings-Boyd was the culmination of a lot of covert work carried out by officers who identified him as being a gang member suspected of criminal behaviour.
"We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to disrupt gangs who cause fear and commit crimes in our communities.
"This is sometimes work which members of the public cannot always see; but they should be assured we are taking action and pursuing further lines of inquiry.
"The public are our eyes and ears and I would appeal directly to the communities of Birmingham to contact us with any information in relation to drug and gun crime on 101; or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
