Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting In Birmingham
23rd May 2018
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal shooting in Handsworth yesterday (22 May).
The suspect, aged 23, was held as he tried to board a ferry in Dover overnight.
He was with a woman, also aged 23, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The pair, who are from Birmingham, are in police custody in the Kent area and will be brought to the West Midlands for questioning.
The victim, aged 22, was found in a car on Maxwell Avenue just before 5pm yesterday. Nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem will be held in due course. Police are not in a position to name the victim, but his family are being supported by specially trained officers.
The area was sealed off while forensic examinations are underway and officers are speaking to witnesses who were in the area at the time.
Detective Inspector Warren Hines from the Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
He said: "We have had an overwhelming amount of information from members of the local community which has enabled some really swift progress to be made with this investigation.
"I would again urge anyone who has any information to contact me direct on 101 or via the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."
