Man Denies Shooting Police Officer Who Lost An Eye

A man has denied shooting a police officer with a rubber bullet in an attack that caused him to lose an eye.

Sergeant Jon King, from Staffordshire Police, lost his right eye after being shot in October 2014.

He had been helping ambulance staff deal with a patient in Rugeley.

Matthew Charles Tearle, 35, pleaded not guilty at Stafford Crown Court to causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a firearm . He is due to stand trial on 25 January 2016.

Sgt King has served with the force for 26 years.
