Man In Hospital After Liverpool Shooting

16th September 2015

Merseyside Police has launched an investigation after a man was shot in Walton, Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Patrols were called to a house in Vanbrugh Road at 9.30pm following reports that a man had been shot inside.

On arrival officers found a 30-year-old man inside the house with gunshot wounds to his upper body.

He was given First Aid by police officers before paramedics arrived and took the man to hospital. His condition is described as serious but stable and the injuries, which are consistent with a shotgun discharge, are not life-threatening.

Detectives investigating the incident believe a lone offender knocked on the door of the victim's house and when it was answered by another person, that person ran out of the house leaving the victim inside where he was then shot.

Detectives are treating the incident as a targeted attack and are pursuing several lines of enquiry to establish a motive and trace the offender.

The house and part of Vanbrugh Road has been cordoned off and crime scene investigators are examining the area for evidence.

Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries and CCTV from the area is being viewed.

Chief Inspector Dawn McNally said: "This was a brazen and targeted attack and we are determined to bring the person responsible to justice.

"The victim was in his house at the time but fortunately has not suffered life-threatening injuries.

"We will not tolerate the use of guns on the streets of Merseyside and we will do all we can to protect communities from the criminals who use them.

"But we need the public's help so I would urge anyone with any information that could help our investigation to call the Merseyside Police gun crime hotline on 0800 230 0600 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
