5th June 2018
Two men have been jailed following the recovery of a Glock handgun and ammunition from a car stopped by armed officers in Liverpool.
At 1pm on Monday 4 December 2017 an Audi S3 was stopped on Smithdown Road and the occupants arrested. A search of the vehicle uncovered the handgun and magazines.
Following a trial a Liverpool Crown Court, Shaun Devonport, 28, of Micawber Close, Toxteth, was found guilty of selling or transferring a prohibited firearm and possessing ammunition. Today, Tuesday 5 June, he was jailed for 12 years.
Michael Rice, 25, of Moses Street, Toxteth, pleaded guilty to the offence of possessing a prohibited firearms and ammunition. He was jailed for six years.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Hussey from Titan, the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit, said: "Thanks to the excellent work of Titan and Merseyside Police officers these two men will be spending a considerable period behind bars.
"It also means that another weapon has been taken out of circulation and can't be used to cause fear or intimidation, injury or worse.
"Titan is committed to tackling serious organised crime and today's sentencing demonstrates that the courts are taking the issue of firearms very seriously.
"We remain committed to tackling criminals involved in firearms and serious criminality and targeting those involved in the movement and storage of weapons by putting those involved before the courts and will continue to work with our partners to ensure this good work continues.
"I would urge members of the community who have information about criminality where they live to share that information with their local police force or Crimestoppers so that positive action can be taken."
The case was discontinued against two other males who were arrested in connection with the incident.
