Woman Shot In Abingdon
4th November 2015
Thames Valley Police Major Crime team is investigating a shooting in Abingdon last night (3/11).
At around 8.20pm the emergency services were called to a report of a suspected shooting of a 26-year-old woman in Thornhill Walk off Northcourt Road.
The victim, who is from Abingdon, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford where she is being treated for her injuries.
Officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident have been carrying out searches and forensic examinations at a number of locations in and around Northcourt Road.
LPA Commander for South and Vale, Supt Jim O'Ryan, said: "The Major Crime team is investigating the shooting of a young woman in Abingdon.
"Our investigations appear to indicate that this is not a random attack and the offender knew the victim. We are actively searching for two suspects. We would urge anyone with any information about this incident and who has not already contacted the police to call us on 101.
"Our thoughts are with the family of this young woman. This is a very unusual incident for the area and officers are working hard to apprehend those responsible. We believe, at this stage, that there is no threat to the wider community.
"We would like to thank the residents for their patience and tolerance as we carry out our investigation and would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to police officers."
