Woman Who Hid Gun Under Sofa Jailed

30th October 2015

A woman who hid a converted firearm behind her sofa has been jailed for three and half years.

Cheryl Greenfield, 33 (05.08.82) of Harts Lane, Barking, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, 29 October after being found guilty of possession of a firearm on same day.

Greenfield was arrested after uniformed officers attended her home and discovered a converted Olympic revolver hidden in her sofa at her flat in Barking in May, 2015.

When interviewed by officers, she claimed that she was concealing it for someone and denied the weapon belonged to her.

Greenfield was subsequently charged with possession of a firearm and remanded in custody.

On forensic examination, the Olympic Revolver was defined as a converted blank firearm which had been drilled and could now fire a live round of ammunition.

Detective Sergeant Jim Barry of the Met's Trident Gang Crime Command said: "This sentence should serve as a stark reminder to those looking after guns for gang members or criminals.

"Trident will continue to tackle these offences in order to make our communities a safer place."
